Life solutions from Panasonic that go beyond home appliances Pursuing a comprehensive proposal combining energy-saving and high-quality products
We spoke to Mr. Tanaka of Panasonic Philippines (PMPC), which opened a new showroom.
-Please tell us about your background.
I joined Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (now Panasonic Corporation) in 2003 and was assigned to the semiconductor division as a sales representative, and in 2009 was transferred to Shanghai, China, I returned to Japan in 2015 and took the opportunity to contribute to the development of emerging countries in areas other than semiconductors, which led me to transfer to my current position in the Life Solutions Division through an internal recruitment program. I was transferred to the Life Solutions Division in 2016, It was tough because I went from a semiconductor section with more than 10 years of experience to handling construction-related products, which I had no experience with, and within a year of my transfer I was suddenly put in charge of the Philippines. This is a rapidly developing country and the construction industry in particular is growing day by day, so I find it exciting to work in this environment.
-What is the nature of the showroom you have opened?
In the Philippines, “Panasonic is home appliances” is what our company is known for. However, we are trying to steer the direction of Panasonic from the home appliance business to B2B business. We already have a large market share in the Philippines for wiring fixtures (switches and outlets), and we would like our visitors to experience our new showroom to find out what products are necessary for proposing space solutions, which we will focus on in the future. -What are the strengths of your products and services?
Panasonic has established global quality standards, and in addition to our commitment to quality, we also offer a wide range of high brightness, energy efficient lighting fixtures and industry-leading solar panels. As for our wiring equipment, we have a nationwide network of more than 500 dealers, so you can get high quality products anytime, anywhere. However, our greatest strength is that we can offer a wide range of products for your workplace, office space, living space, and commercial space for shopping. For example, we feel it is advantageous for our customers to have air conditioners, lighting, and solar panels of the same brand and to be able to propose energy savings.
-What does the future hold for you?
Thanks to your support, we have been able to secure growth in PMPCs every year , and the number of our products used by customers has been increasing. However, as mentioned above, we at Panasonic need to take on new challenges, and in order to achieve further growth and development, we feel that strengthening our B2B business and proposing lifel solutions are essential. In these two areas, we are ashamed to say that we are still not able to contribute to our customers in the Philippines. Therefore, we would like our customers to feel our passion for our company through the establishment of this new showroom, and we would like more customers to feel the value of our services.
＜Products and services＞
The introduction of Panasonic products has resulted in high energy savings.
-What products are you focusing on?
Energy saving is a major point in the Philippines, where electricity costs are high. In this respect, I think solar panels and LED lighting will be the key products for the future. Solar is a renewable energy source that is attracting a lot of attention in the Philippines, where the amount of solar radiation is higher than in other countries. Customers have high expectations for the effectiveness of solar, but are often troubled by the initial investment. However, unlike ordinary consumer products, many customers have a hard time choosing inexpensive products to reduce their investment because they will use them for decades. The same is true for LED lighting, there is no quality standard (PS) for imported products. In the Philippines, where there are so many brands that have entered the market, it is often said that it is difficult to judge which brands are of good quality.
-What do you suggest?
In advance of your solar panels, we will provide you with a monthly electricity bill reduction rate and a simulation of the number of years to recover your investment (ROI) by estimating the amount of solar radiation per day, optimal panel placement, and quantity based on the roof shape. These services are provided free of charge as part of our estimate. Some customers decide to install the system based on this information, or some customers install only a part of the system for the first time and then install additional systems after seeing the results. As mentioned above, there is no standard for LED lighting, so low quality products are available at low cost. We provide products in accordance with the global Panasonic quality standards. Also, although you may have the impression that Panasonic is expensive, we benchmark our lighting products against other companies’ products to ensure that our prices are in line with the market, so please contact us for a quote.
Panasonic’s solar business has been in operation for more than 40 years around the world. In the Philippines, in addition to the HIT brand (325W and 240W), which is well known in Japan, we launched a 290W model last year that uses monocrystalline cells that are available at more reasonable prices. All of these products boast industry-leading power generation, and we are proud to offer a 25-year warranty based on many years of experience. We will provide you with a monthly electricity bill reduction and a simulation of the payback agency when we provide you with a quote. We have certified installers not only in Manila, but also in North and South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, so we can install in rural areas as well.
We offer a wide range of products from LED and CFL lamps to lighting fixtures. In addition to high luminosity and high energy-saving performance, we also strive to offer products at reasonable prices that meet the needs of the market. We also offer lighting design, illuminance calculation, and fixture suggestions according to the layout of the facility using software. Basically, the products are designed to overseas specifications, but we can also provide Japanese products for customers who wish to purchase products that were used in Japan. Our experienced local lighting staff will be available to assist you if you wish to attend a product seminar.
Every year in November, IIEE National Convention is the largest electrical exhibition in the Philippines with over 10,000 visitors. Last year(2018), our booth won the silver award for the second place in the whole exhibition. At the exhibition, we will display our new products as well as those in our showroom. We are looking forward to seeing you at the show. This year’s show will be held from November 27th to 30th at the SMX Convention Center.(2019)
